Keeping Negative Away for Exponential Growth

We all want to stay away from pollution as we know what it can cause to us. Everyone knows that air, water and noise are the forms of pollution that hit us but there is a bigger and more powerful pollution that impacts us all and is more deadly. You may ask what is that – and its negative thoughts/defeating thoughts that run through our minds and are a silent killer.

Most of us are so unaware of its presence and the impact that we live years with this daily and in fact, become habituated to it.

Look around and listen to what people say and you will notice that the words that we hear are not really positive on a daily basis. What is inside, is what comes out as there is a direct relationship between what we let sit in our heads and our speech.

Imagine a beautiful garden with flowers, immaculately cut green grass, and all of a sudden a garbage truck dumps garbage on it. Our immediate reaction? Shock, anger? If that’s the case, our brains are like that garden where we allow negative to reside and in fact willingly enter every single day.

“Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty, and persistence”

Philip Reyes

I Could realize this by listening to several successful people I had the fortune of being associated with over the past years and hearing many other success stories from the sports, entertainment, and business world. The one outstanding quality that all successful people had inculcated was to consciously stop any negative from coming in and not let negative thoughts make their home for long inside their minds.

Easier said than done, of course, and that’s exactly what I exclaimed each time I heard them or read about them. What can be done, the world all over is full of negatives, rejections and disappointments are so many as we strive toward our goals! The media, society and even peers are not exactly dishing out inspirational talks. The onus lies on us and here are some of the ways I have been practicing to focus my mind on what’s good and keeping the poison away:

  1. Developing self-talk: This is a science and wiring my brain to listen to myself speak positively is the best way to push positive inside
  2. Reading every day: When we read, there is something special that happens. A book is like a mirror and shows us exactly what we need to listen to
  3. Audio: A Program to listen to someone else speak what we want to hear and not what we are forced to hear. Success stories, leaders, or inspirational talks every day.
  4. Access good news: There are plenty available but the media is so focused on increasing their TRP that they just showcase negative all day long. Some sources of good news are wins in sports, media, or other fields where daily action happens
  5. Develop an interest in sports: Sports teaches us this big time. If not playing, develop an interest in keeping a tab of what’s going on there. There are so many stories that keep coming out which inspire. Any game that is won, has a positive story, and learning from it, be it in any form of sport. The winners always teach you how to ward off negative from life and that is what’s important as a takeaway.
  6. Talk to people from who you listen positively and stay away from conversations with people who only speak negatively, protect your brain/mindset like a prized jewel.

There are so many fallouts in our daily lives if we keep giving negative talk/thoughts a house in our minds. Be it day-to-day decisions, our relationships, or even strategic decisions in life, negative sentiment is what leads to us making mistakes and then later wondering, how did that happen.

Just look at the financial world- when negative feelings and sentiments shroud the investor community, values erode like there is no tomorrow. Some of it is based on real data but most of the erosion is because the vast majority cannot think clearly and are clouded by fear and negative news.

To be able to make the right decisions and actions, important to keep our brain thinking right hence the need to work on this every day, like we should nourish our body so should we nourish our mind.
